Davies says lotto tender will be strictly controlled, BUSINESS DAY (Late Final)
CAPE TOWN — Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies is determined that there will be no repeat of the disputes that rocked the awarding of the lottery licence to Gidani in 2007, and has given the assurance that the adjudication process for the next licence will be strictly controlled and “the most scrutinised bid yet”. A request for proposals for the lucrative seven-year licence to operate the national lottery was issued in the Government Gazette this month for submission on November 30. Consortia have already been formed and two prospective bidders have already bought documents. The decision on the winning bidder will be announced on October 31 next year, with the new licence coming into effect from June 1 2015.
