FEATURE Land Reform Initiative A blueprint for land reform Troubled by the spate of failed land reform ventures, a farmer in Mpumalanga has come up with a plan he sees as a one-size-fits-all blueprint for land reform. Dr Cohn Forbes explains to Lindi van Rooyen why farmers should sell 10% of their land and mentor emerging farmers. Dr Colin Forbes has a mixed farming operation near Amsterdam in Mpumalanga, which comprises 900ha maize, 1 060ha soya beans, 40ha potatoes and 2 600 head of cattle. The farm has been in his family for over 150 years and although he would like to continue farming for the rest of his life, he says it won't necessarily happen because expropriation is on the cards.
