EDITOR'S TC MYMIND MARC ASHTON The short answer is that they inspire confidence, something that's sorely lacking in the market at the moment A GEEKY-LOOKING 17-year-old kid with braces and crooning along to the Parlotones at the recent Jo'burg Day music festival got me thinking quite a bit about role models in this country. Whether a rock band that spends its spare time recording soundtracks for M-Net's promotional videos is the right role model to have or not is open to debate, the point being that for a moment in time this 17-year-old has the belief that he can be more than he is. In a country where 40% of South African youth are unemployed and face a bleak future on the jobs front, the value of this is incalculable.
