More often than not, black enterprises who manage to break into business sectors, that are largely a preserve of white enterprises, will settle in quietly and bulk in the ‘First Black’ glory.
But there are those types who are unsettled by the “First Black” syndrome and move to agitate for broader change. They don’t kick ladder.
Mandla Mlangeni Quantity Surveyors (MMQS) might be this type. That is if the statements made by the company’s leadership recently are anything to by.
“Unless there is an active effort by the public sector and government to support black owned businesses, as black entrepreneurs and professionals, we are likely to continue to see a minority owning the majority of economic assets, a fundamental hurdle to black economic emancipation,” says MMQS founding director Mandla Mlangeni.
