While the challenges of the past few years have taken their toll, they thankfully have not dented the entrepreneurial spirit so enshrined in franchising, and it continues to enjoy worldwide success as a sound business format. FASA's 33rd Annual General Meeting, held at Bowman Gilfillan on Wednesday 22nd February, saw around 60 members gather to hear FASA Chairman Jan Davel give his Chairman's Report and outline plans for 2012. “Opportunity Knocks!” is his mantra for 2012. Jan believes franchising holds the key to unlocking Africa's potential with South Africa, as a leading emerging market, serving as a springboard to the rest of Africa, and he challenged all franchise industry participants to play a positive role in the country's economic recovery. “We should all focus on areas of control and opportunity rather than areas of concern and remember that franchising, with its contribution to GDP of almost 12 percent (according to The Franchise Factor® research by Bendeta Gordon of Franchize Directions) plays an important role in the economy and is most definitely here to stay!”
