Owner gets R3m loan, SMALL BUSINESS CONNECT
RANDBURG business owner Nontobeko Mkhize now lives her dream to run her own business, thanks to a R3 million loan from the National Empowerment Fund (NEF). The NEF, an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, assists black entrepreneurs with funding to help grow their businesses. Mkhize, owner of Shell Scotch Corner in Randburg, says her passion for the industry was birthed during her career as a business advisor for Shell South Africa. “When I worked at Shell, I was involved in helping various service station owners with turnaround strategies to make their businesses profitable. I eventually approached management with my proposal to buy a service station myself and they were confident that I would succeed,” says Mkhize. She says she first heard about the agency through a friend who works at a financial institution.
