South Africa natures the film production industry, Ujuh.co.za – Ujuh

The department of trade and industry (DTIC) is set to launch the South African Emerging Black Filmmakers Incentive Scheme which will assist productions with a total budget of R1 million and above.

In a statement released today the DTIC said its principal Dr Rob Davies will launch the scheme on Monday, 15 September 2014.

This represents a step up from the broader support offered by the DTIC to the local film production industry. The DTIC has supported film productions to the tune of R2 billion since the inception of the Film and Television Production Incentive in 2004. Together with other agencies like the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) the DTIC support counts remarkable successes. These include international hits like the Long Walk to Freedom, a movie depicting the early life of South African legend Nelson Mandela.
