South Africa''s Film Industry: Everything You Need, Filmmakerafrica.co.za – Filmmaker Africa
South Africa’s film industry has more than trebled its contribution to the economy in the last four years, up from R2.4 billion in 2008 to R8 billion in 2012, when it hosted ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, the largest commercial film produced in South Africa so far.
The South African government has identified the film sector as a key strategic growth area. They’ve created a supportive environment for film, with The National Film and Video Foundation, The Department of Trade and Industry, The Industrial Development Corporation and The National Empowerment Fund all providing financing options. There are film commissions in Cape Town, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal.
