I might wonder what One parliament's development of a transformation charter for the media sector might have encompassed had Print and Digital Media SA (PDMSA) not stepped in last year and offered to create a task team that would investigate, analyse and recommend ways of ensuring transformation of the sector. In this way at least, the sector can be assured of not being over-regulated by government, especially following the passing of the controversial 'Secrecy Bill'. The Print and Digital Media Transformation Task Team (PDMTTT) launched in September 2012, committed to produce, by the end of June this year, a blueprint for a media sector transformation charter. Part of the PDMTTT's mandate included investigating alleged anti-competitive behaviour by some of the major companies against smaller emerging independent publishers and it was reported that this caused two of the four major media houses to pull out of the hearings.
