ma merit of Reports by ANDILE APRIL THIS week dynamic chartered accountant (CA) Nokuthula Nhlapo tells us something about her work at the National Empowerment Fund. What is the NEF? Started in 2005, it is a development finance institution who's mandate is to grow black economic participation in South Africa. What does a day in the life of a CA at NEF entail? My job is dynamic so there isn't a typical daily routine. A day depends on the deals I'm working on at a particular point in time. What are your working responsibilities? I prepare financial models of the deals we write up and compile the fmancial section of the investment report we submit to our investment committees. I essentially assess the economic merit of our deals, in other words, their financial sustainability, pricing, affordability and so forth.
